Learn the history

July 9th, 2015 by Piper Smith

The best way to learn the history of Key West is to visit the Key West Shipwreck Historeum. When you start your tour, one of Asa’s crew men will gather you around the auctioning square and give you an intro to the wrecking industry. Inside of his warehouse you’ll meet famous and wealthy salvager, Asa Tift. Key West was once the wealthiest city in America thanks to the wrecking industry, and created some of the first millionaires, like William Curry. Asa will tell you all about the wrecks he salvaged and the treasures he collected. Come climb the tower where wreckers once watched for wrecking ships, and look over the small, historic island of Key West.IMG_3581
